Like most regions of Thailand, the capital city of the province is named after the province. Phuket Town is the capital of Phuket island. It has an old world charm and is worth a visit.

Phuket Town

Most tourists prefer to stay in the south of Phuket island, with Kata, Karon and Patong beaches being the most popular.

Naiharn beach is worth a visit as it has a small section where you have real waves. The other main beaches in the south have ripples, not waves. But be careful of going to the beachfront hotel for a beer. They will skin you alive. There are a few small shops that sell beer up by the parking lot.
