When people talk about Krabi in Thailand it can mean a few different things. Krabi is a province in the southern part of Thailand and the capital is called Krabi town.

Krabi is the last popular tourist destination in mainland southern Thailand and lies about 540km from the Malaysian border - as the crow flies. There are many islands further south that are frequented by tourists, but no mainland tourist destinations.

The biggest attraction in the area is Railay Beach. Railay East and Railay West are two distinct parts of Railay Beach located in Krabi, Thailand. While both areas offer stunning views of limestone cliffs and turquoise waters, they have some notable differences.

Railay East is known for being more budget-friendly, with cheaper accommodations and restaurants compared to Railay West. It is also the main arrival point for long-tail boats, making it a busier and more crowded area.

On the other hand, Railay West is known for its upscale resorts and restaurants, catering to travelers seeking a more luxurious experience. It is also the go-to spot for watching the sunset, with a picturesque view of the sun setting behind the limestone cliffs. Overall, both areas offer their own unique charm and appeal to different types of travelers.

Ao Nang is the part of Krabi where most of the budget-friendly action is. It is a small beach town not too far from Krabi town catering for the more budget-conscious tourist. The beach road is packed with bars and entertainment venues and a night on the town is a lot of fun. I know - I've done it many times!

Ao Nang is also where you board the longtails going to Railay Beach and nearby islands.
